SVCTE Student Wins CenturyLink Technology Grant
CenturyLink chose East Valley High Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Paige Adcock to receive a $5,000 grant for a technology project called "Parenting: It's Not for the Weak!". The money will be used to purchase infant simulators that are used in Child Development. The simulators are computerized and need feeding, changing,rocking, burping etc. In addition, they keep track of abuse and neglect, including environmental temperature (hot/cold car) and neck support. The simulators can also be programmed to mimic the symptoms of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and drug addiction. Students are "parents" for two days and nights. The lessons learned by the "parents" and their peers not only in regards to best parenting practices but career skills in the areas of child care and pediatrics.
