Mica Peak High School Adds CTE Classes and Student Opportunities
Mica Peak High School now has a full time Family and Consumer Science teacher. In addition to the existing Biomedical Sciences program, beginning fall of 2016 students have the opportunity to take Single Survival, Family and Consumer Services or Child Development courses. Through the Child Development 1 course, fourteen students earned industry-recognized Child Care Basics (STARS) Certifications and with those, three free college credits as part of a district agreement with Spokane Falls Community College. They are all excited for the next step in the Child Development Program which will be to participate next year as interns in the preschools at our district’s Early Learning Center. Many studies show this career connected learning is invaluable to our students in preparing them for their future education and careers.
The intra-curricular organization FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is also being added to provide an avenue for extended leadership. These new option have been received with much excitement and provide needed Career and Technical Education at Mica Peak High School!
