Area Students Earn Award from National Association of Broadcasters

"This Week In High School Sports” is a partnership between local high schools Central Valley, Dear Park and University and KAYU FOX 28. The Greater Spokane League (GSL) serves as a core group of participants to provide the bulk of the show’s content.  The program airs nine months of the year on KAYU FOX 28 on Thursday nights following the news (10:35 pm) and also available on Syncbak on demand, and available on the "This Week in High School Sports" website. The show took high honors with the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) during the Small Market Exchange held in Phoenix, AZ the week of September 23rd (voted in the top four of all entries).  Additionally, "This Week in High School Sports" was honored at the Washington Association of Broadcasters annual meeting as KAYU FOX 28 received an outstanding support award for “Public Education Partnership Program”.  This award is only given to two broadcasters in the state of Washington each year.

"This Week In High School Sports" program is produced, written, shot and edited by high school students making it the only known such program in the country. Students are also the on-air talent for this program with support from teachers Alan Wardsworth (CVHS), Jared Bock (UHS) and Dan Huffman (DPHS). In the first season, 39 shows aired highlighting traditional high school sports as well as sports not often covered like bowling, indoor track, snowboarding and equestrian.

KAYU FOX 28 is proud of the efforts that the participating schools, students, and instructors have contributed to This Week in High School Sports and is looking forward to the second season being even bigger and better.
